How SpaceWeatherTracker Works

SpaceWeatherTracker helps you understand space weather, astronomy events, and the night sky by combining real-time scientific data with astronomical calculations tuned to your location.

1. Real-Time Space Weather Monitoring

We continuously ingest data on solar activity, solar flares, coronal mass ejections (CMEs), solar wind speed and density, and geomagnetic conditions including the planetary Kp index. This gives you a live picture of what the Sun is doing and how Earth's magnetic field is responding.

2. Personalized Sky Forecasts

Forecasts are customized to your specific location โ€” using latitude, longitude, local time, and atmospheric conditions โ€” so the moon, sun, planet, and aurora information you see reflects your actual sky, not a generic global average.

3. Sky Tonight

The Sky Tonight page combines moon phase and illumination, sunrise and sunset, twilight periods, visible planets, stargazing conditions, and aurora potential into a single at-a-glance nightly briefing for your location.

4. Aurora Forecasting

Aurora visibility considers solar wind speed and density, geomagnetic activity, the current Kp index, and your observer latitude. We compare the Kp-driven auroral oval to your location to estimate whether the aurora is reachable from where you are.
