Editorial Standards & Corrections

SpaceWeatherTracker.com publishes real-time space weather data, aurora forecasts, and educational content. Because millions of people use this information to plan aurora hunting, eclipse viewing, and stargazing trips, we hold our editorial work to the standards below.

Who writes this site

All editorial content on SpaceWeatherTracker is written and reviewed by Adrienne Bemis, founder and lead editor. Adrienne is a lifelong astronomy enthusiast with over a decade of aurora chasing, eclipse observation, and space weather tracking experience. Learn more on the About page.

Our sources

Real-time telemetry and forecasts on this site come from:

  • NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) — Kp index, solar wind, IMF Bz, X-ray flux, proton flux, CME tracking, geomagnetic storm alerts.
  • NASA — SDO imagery, DSCOVR/ACE L1 telemetry, DONKI CME database, Helioviewer.
  • USGS and international magnetometer networks — ground-based magnetic-field data.
  • Open-Meteo — cloud cover and local weather.
  • Zippopotam.us and Open-Meteo Geocoding — location resolution.

How we verify claims

  • Historical events and numerical claims are cross-checked against at least two sources (typically NOAA/NASA plus peer-reviewed literature or Wikipedia).
  • We label estimates and modeled values (e.g. Drag-Based Model CME arrival times) as estimates, not facts.
  • Live telemetry displayed on the site is fetched directly from NOAA SWPC endpoints and refreshed on a fixed schedule; we do not smooth, edit, or predict values in a way that would obscure the source data.
  • Educational guides are written to be accurate at the level of a general reader — where we simplify, we say so.

AI use

We use AI tools to assist with drafting, formatting, and code — but every article is reviewed and fact-checked by a human before publishing. We do not publish pages generated end-to-end by AI without human editorial oversight.

Independence

Editorial coverage on this site is independent of advertisers. Ads appear via Google AdSense; we have no direct relationship with individual advertisers and their placement does not influence what we write.

Corrections policy

If you spot a factual error — a wrong date, a misattributed source, a broken forecast calculation, a misleading claim — please email [email protected] or use the contact form. We aim to acknowledge corrections within 48 hours and, when we update an article, add a visible correction note at the bottom of the page.
